Ratatouille: Gusteau
Something I’ve been working on recently, another blast from the past.
26 years ago, I had the opportunity to work on the Pixar film Ratatouille as a character designer.
I was the first character design sculptor on the show and I did many different clay versions of designs for the character Gusteau.
This particular clay sketch was my favorite and I always wanted to bring it into digital and do a nicer version of him since we didn’t have these tools back then, I wish we had.
Anyway, I didn’t have access to my original model so I used photos, photogrammetry, and AI to reconstruct my clay version digitally so I could realize him this way.
I also did a 3-D print and painted it, as you’ll see in next post.
In the end, he turned out a little different, but the essence of what I was doing here I think made it into the character that is in the final film.
