One of my earliest assignments on the project was taking a model from a previous SpongeBob production of the Krusty Krab interior and matching it more closely to season two or three Krusty Krab interior designs from the 2-D series.
Underworld test environment.
Another early test environment/diorama of an Underworld scene I did to roughly explore the space/colors in 3D based on a painting by @alviramirez_art (last slide) before any 3D environments/sets were officially done etc.
I had a lot of fun making all the models for this set and applying quick textures to get a feel for things, then dropping some lights in for the renders to explore colors and shadows.

SpongeBob warmup.
1-2 weeks before I started on the show, I decided on my own to do a study of SpongeBob in order to loosely warmup to the style.
In my opinion, it’s always a good idea to have a little time in the beginning, without a deadline etc.. to play around.

Flying Dutchman.
I think the Dutchman was my first official character I did for the show.
He’s a fun design and I’m grateful for the opportunity I had to realize him in 3D.

SpongeBob and Gary show models.
I ended up doing these guys twice, once for the movie here and again for the short, “Go Fetch”.

Incidentals! (crowd characters)
We spent a lot of time and did a lot of work on the incidentals here, they are deceptively simple, and tricky to get right.
Later they were mixed and matched to create the different varieties of the population.

3 Headed Seagull
This was a complex character, I had to do an open wing version, a closed wing version, and an open and closed mouth version to help Reel FX with some early blend shapes/targets.
